I am a crypto investor, creator, marketer and art historian who is passionate about evangelizing for crypto technology and highlighting its wide range of cultural applications.
I incorporate a vast array of references into my point of view, drawing from my extensive knowledge of emerging technology, media and culture, with a particular emphasis on art and consumer crypto technology. To fully understand the crypto industry, I believe you must be an everyday user, thus, I actively invest and engage with a variety of crypto applications to better understand the landscape.
I have been a professional investor since 2021, actively directing both a NFT and venture capital fund, as well as sitting on the board of my previous company, leading it to an acquisition.
I started studying NFTs before the inception of the ERC-721 standard in 2016. As a result of my innovative research, I received a Canadian research grant (the only first year student to do so) to conduct my studies at the University of British Columbia (ranked as one of the top 35 universities in the world). I graduated in 2018 where I wrote my master’s thesis on how blockchain technology and cryptocurrency can be applied to the art world. It was one of the first academic thesis’ ever to be published on “crypto art.”
Soon after its publication, my thesis garnered international interest. I began to receive offers to lecture at universities as well as collaborate with other academics globally. After graduating from UBC, I took a position at a private investment firm, where I worked primarily with emerging technology companies, supporting them in all aspects of growth and the going-public process.
Throughout this time, I continued to personally invest and lecture, which led to a job offer at a London-based crypto investment fund in March of 2021. I directed their NFT fund, making early purchases of Bored Apes, Fidenzas, CryptoPunks, Chromie Squiggles and more, growing the fund by more than 400%. By June 2021, I was also co-directing their crypto VC fund, where we primarily invested in consumer facing projects. By November 2022, I was sitting on the board of the company where I stayed until it was successfully acquired in January 2024.
I strongly believe that for crypto technology to truly reach its full potential, it must be made hyper accessible, which inspired me to launch the Context Podcast. The goal is to highlight how crypto intersects with cultural applications including art, music and fashion. Now in its third season, my guests have included Jerry Saltz (Pulitzer Prize winning art critic), Arianna Simpson (GP at a16z), Natalie Stone (GM of Cryptopunks), Bobby Hundreds (Co-founder of The Hundreds) and Sasha Stiles (AI art pioneer). This season, I’m honoured to be partnering with Sotheby’s Metaverse, who are world leaders in educating, curating, selling and encouraging the mainstream adoption of preeminent NFTs and digital art. The podcast is produced by Boys Club, a leading crypto media company who has a committed and passionate following.
It is crucial for me to frame ideas via an intersectional lens and consider a diverse set of viewpoints when forming my own. My unique range of experiences and background in art, academia, crypto and the financial markets creates a dynamic understanding of investing, marketing and creativity.
